Refuelling services at the airport will not be available on the 31st of December and 1st of January.


> 20-10-2011 Emergency Drill in the Pyrenees La Seu d'Urgell airport

The General Direction for Civil Protection and Aeroports de Catalunya had an emergency drill at the Pirineus-La Seu d'Urgell airport with more than a hundred people involved. The drill began at 10 am and went on for two hours, the aiport selfprotection plan and the Special Emergency Plan Aeronautical Catalunya (AeroCat) were activated.

The emergecy drill consisted on an emergency landing of a plane with 16 people on board with the landing gear broken, involving all operating bodies: Firemen Department, Catalan Police Department, Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Red Cross, the Institute of Legal Medicine of Catalonia, and the police court of La Seu.

The British firm Routenetwork has shown interest in operating at the airport in La Seu in 2012 with the future regular company Pyrenees Air Lines. The company today has presented the project and has been testing landings and takeoff with a similar plane to the one they will use in 2012 (30 passengers, domestic and international flights).

* 20-05-2011 The Generalitat promotes a business plan for Pirineus-La Seu d'Urgell Airport


Last April, 18th the La Seu d'Urgell Airport Strategic Table was established, aimed to boost this infrastructure with commercial flights which can help the tourism industry in the Pyrenean region, through the preparation of a business plan to promote the operating capacity of the airport.
 
The airport, managed by the public entity Aeroports de Catalunya, was reopened for air traffic 4th June 2010, and since the reopening, a total of 1,751 flights have been operated, with more than 3,000 users.
 
At this moment the Strategic Table has an airport development plan (PDUA) draft that envisages the expansion of the airport, for which a consensus must be reached on with the region.

The airport development plan provides to expand the hangars zone and to study the resize of the runway in order to widen the range of airplanes that can operate on it. As of today the building rights for 7 big dimensions plots and 3 individual plots have already been awarded and a second phase of tenders for hangars plots has been started.
 
To transform this private general aviation airfield into a commercial airport several actions are planned. The first stage includes various improvement works in the current infrastructure, like the reorganisation of the platform and the installation of new video surveillance and access control systems.

The second stage envisages the adaptation of the buildings to install a mini terminal for cargo and passengers and to set up the necessary security and control equipments. In parallel, the restaurant service in the terminal building has also been awarded. The area dedicated to the kitchen will be adapted and the appropriate installations will be built.
